Frequently Asked Questions

Baby on Laptop
What does "baby-proof" mean?

To "baby-proof" your home is to help make it safer and more baby-friendly for your child. It may involve putting gates at the top and bottom of your stairs, or locking your kitchen cabinets, or moving household cleaners out of baby's reach. These are just a few examples of the many ways to baby-proof your home. Baby-proofing, coupled with close adult supervision, are the best ways to keep your child safe in your home. While no home can be 100% safe, baby-proofing is a great first step toward keeping your child safe.

I watch my baby constantly. Do I really need to baby-proof my home?

Yes! While parents should always have a watchful eye on their baby, sometimes a curious baby can do something unexpected right before our very eyes! It is difficult to anticipate each new adventure that a crawling baby encounters. By baby-proofing your home you can stay one step ahead and keep your baby's discoveries safe.

My parents never baby-proofed our home and I turned out fine.
Why should I baby-proof my home?

Most of us can trade childhood tales of playing in the backseat of the family car, unbuckled, during long road trips or riding our bicycles without helmets, but would we allow our children to do these things today? Of course not! We are better educated about the dangers that are lurking in and around our homes - and we are better equipped to prevent them.

How much does baby-proofing cost?

Heart & Home breaks baby-proofing into 2 steps to provide you with a pressure-free way to make an informed decision. We start with the Home Safety Survey which includes a walk-through of your home to discuss potential dangers and the best solutions, as well as valuable safety tips. This Survey typically takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours. At the end, you will be given a Safety Overview which outlines the products we discussed, as well as things you can do on your own (ex: moving a plant out of baby's reach). All fees for products and installation labor are outlined in the Safety Overview. This varies depending on the size of your house and the degree to which you want to baby-proof. You can later decide how much of the products you would like to purchase and call Heart & Home to schedule the installation appointment. The cost of the Home Survey is $85. You will find that product prices are competitive and labor prices are very affordable! Please call us at 617-332-0398 for more information.
